For warehouse facilities to be accepted under the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS), they should meet the set warehouse and warehousing standards and protocols set at National, Regional and International level for storage of commodities.
These are facilities expected to store commodities either for trading or consumption purposes by humans and animals, so there has to be an assurance of quality and quantity by the storage facilities.
Currently, most storage facilities under the WRS are owned by the private sector players (Companies, Farmer groups and Associations, Cooperatives, etc). The facilities are distributed across the Country most especially in the rural productive areas as shown.
The Depositors (Farmers, Traders, etc) deliver their harvested commodity at the licensed warehouses under the system. Quality and quantity is ascertained, and if the commodity requires cleaning, drying or both, it will be subjected to processing before storage and thereafter issuance of a Warehouse Receipt.
